I am a strategic and creative thinker who is not afraid to get his hands dirty to get things moving in a small operation. I have been involved in both start up situations as well as "turn-arounds" and have been successful in achieving stretch goals. I've been through internal & external mergers and been through countless environmental changes. One of the challenges in working in highly regulated industries is becoming "rule-bound" but I am renowned for being exceptionally creative in overcoming institutional/bureacratic boundaries. I think this comes from being a left-handed Gemini!

My values and attitude to life are grounded very much in my background. I was born in England to a father whom survived World War II as a submariner and a mother who worked in a munitions factory close to the Portsmouth naval dockyard, subject to heavy wartime bombing. When they came through those life changing events, they didn't take anything for granted. Coming from a working class background I was one of the first in our family to ever go to University, and I was so fortunate that they supported me through that. In January 1980 I stepped onto Canadian soil for a two year postdoctoral Fellowship...and never made it back....
